2010 Rhiannon Red Wine California 13.5% $15

A Blend of unspecified amounts of Syrah, Zinfandel and Barbera

Fairly intense on the nose with plenty of red fruits, raspberries and red currants, over a base of smoky, toasty, lead pencil oak. A pleasant surprise on the palate with a bright, transparent light mouth feel. There's a fair amount of oak, lightly toasty and adding plenty of vanilla to the palate, but at the same time this does show nice red berry fruit and red plum skin flavors. The tannins are relatively unobtrusive on the palate, with a juicy acidity, but the mocha tinged finish highlights a little wood tannin, as the fruit lacks some persistence. This is fun and easy to drink. 87pts Find it Here

Interesting how Washington represents here. They do very nice blends at great prices. I've become a big fan.

Washington is doing some greet work these days, too bad many of the wines are not widely distributed.

MrWinelover, there's a lot of great resources here on Snooth, and keep trying wines, it's the best way to learn!

  • You might want to try Bogle Phantom at $ 15.99 in Cherry Hill, NJ. It's a blend of Old vine zin, old vine mourvedre and petite syrah. Their petite S and Old vine zin are standalone winners around $ 8 and embarrassingly low priced for the quality delivered.

Coppola Rosso is a blend that varies contents each year, they used to publish what is in it, but they no longer do. It is rather raw, but with 3 yrs of aging, it becomes a lovely Italianesque wine, but with more body.
