This New Zealand wine icon continues to dazzle.

If you are new to New Zealand wines, this is the historic winery to know. And if you’re already in the know, there’s a good chance this winery is a favorite. Villa Maria is New Zealand's most awarded winery for a reason.

See that picture? It's Marlborough at sunset, overlooking one of Villa Maria's stunning vineyard plots. Villa Maria Founder Sir George Fistonich started the winery with just five acres of leased land in Auckland. Fifty years later, Villa Maria is an icon, synonymous with quality New Zealand wines. And Sir George is still involved in the winery's daily operations. His past and present efforts are largely responsible for the international rise of New Zealand wines.

Villa Maria has identified the best plots  across multiple regions (Auckland, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Marlborough), showcasing New Zealand’s vast quilt of soils and terroir. I had a chance to chat with Villa Maria winemaker Kat Jankowiec about these nuances as we tasted through a set of six Villa Maria wines. The set pulls from the latest vintage. It demonstrates Villa Maria’s wide range and skill. What’s more, the set is available here at a promotional rate. Secure your six pack and watch the virtual tasting with Kat here. Read on for a review of each wine in the six pack.

Please try and enjoy. Fortunately WE down here have been able to savior, cherish and enjoy this type of NZ wine. However, VM is top class and so are many many more. We may be small but as far as Wine and Rugby is concerned WE punch above our weight. Try to get a hold of Kumeu River Chardonnay - old style buttery and full. Greetings and Best Regards from NZ. Come over and visit. PS I'm not in the travel or wine business just an ordinary Kiwi likes wine and potential visitors. Visited USA many times wish to repay your hospitality.
