The Ultimate Summer refreshers! As we work our way through summer, a summer that has been absolutely beautiful here in the northeast, or at least for the few days I’ve been here, I know that many of us have revisited our favorite white wines and are now ready to move on to something more refreshing. That is afterall, one of wines main responsibilities in the summer. Wine should always be delicious, but when it’s hot out, and our food is light and fresh, our wine should fit into our lifestyle.

It is always fascinating to see what other folks are drinking, and to get recommendations from their learned palates. Today we have five or our favorite wine writing friends sharing some of their favorite summer whites. Will you be refreshed? Check out some of these fine wines and we’re sure you will be!

Some good ideas here, but also some that I can't fathom. Alsace pinot gris at 14% = refreshing? Huh? Not in my world.

Where is vinho verde? Acidity and under 10% alcohol.
Yes to German and Austrian riesling.
How about quality pinot grigio from Alto Adige? Orvieto? Frascati?
A nice honest sauvignon de Touraine?

    Yeesh. No imagination whatsoever.

Absolutely agree. Alsace riesling tends toward higher alcohol than German but I agree they are refreshing. Chateau St Michelle dry riesling is an under-appreciated U.S. riesling currently selling where I am for $8. I buy by the case for July and August.

I forgot albarinho. WONDERFUL for summer! Let's add South African chenin blanc, and gruner veltliner as well.

Very strange to see such narrow, parochial opinions on this site of supposed wine experts.
