Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread and Cakebread Chardonnay
There is nothing that I love more than wine than butter... okay, maybe cheese.. and bacon.. okay, but we are talking about cookies and I'm going old school with lots of butter: Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread. While other shortbread companies cut corners by using margarine instead of butter, the founder, Joseph Walker stayed true with using good ole delicious butter. My favorite cookie was easy to choose but the pairing was difficult - not because I didn't know which wine to pick but I was embarrassed about my choice. I was afraid that I would be made fun of by my fellow wine geeks. But we are all friends, so we can share our secrets. Yes, I admit I like Cakebread Chardonnay Reserve Carneros, Napa Valley. Because it has such a strong, popular brand, as a wine geek, I did not want to like it. But someone tasted me on the 2012 Cakebread Chardonnay blind a while back and it impressed me. And it is a perfect match with Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread. The wine's creamy body with spicy and nutty notes and rich flavors of pear pie is heaven with the accompaniment of this crumbly cookie that melts in your mouth with a butter flavor. So get yourself some Walkers shortbreads and a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay for a night of laid back decadence. Will you hate yourself in the morning? Maybe. But I promise it will be worth it.
