Melini Chianti Borghi d’Elsa

If you’re looking for a Chianti that you can have and eat your pie too, this Melini is amazingly easy on both the pocketbook and the palate. It’s a quaffing wine, uncomplicated and fresh, but with enough zesty fruit to easily handle some tomatoes and cheese, maybe even some strategically placed slices of pepperoni!

Great list you put together here. I think the only one I've tried is the Gnarly Head - looks like I need to get shopping. Thanks for the recs.

I bought a case of Evodia 2009 Old Vines Garnacha at Costco recently, having been astonished at the quality of the bottle I picked up out of curiosity for $7! Spanish, 100 yr old vines, "custom cuvee for Eric Solomon." My only complaint is the 15% alc-- that astonished me, as I would never have guessed it from tasting it, and usually I'm pretty sensitive to high alc. content. This has none of the "hot" quality I've disliked in some high alc. wines. Then again, I've read about the undependability of those percentages-- maybe this is more like 13%, which would have been my guess. Totally delish, anyhow.

While I'll skip the jam wine....I will look for the others! I, too, have had only the Gnarly Head...not a bad wine :)
    Thanks!
