There are so many wine awards it can make your head spin, but how do wines become the "Best of the Year?" Sometimes you just don't know. Perhaps it's time to shed some light on the voting behind these awards, or even start a new with a revolutionary system that takes into account both the opinions of professionals and consumers.
That's my thinking, and it iswhat I am proposing. It's time to do away with antiquated thinking that awards prizes based solely on what the "experts" think. Wine scores are based on some theoretical blend of hedonistic and intellectual satisfaction that a reviewer gets from his five minutes with a wine. I say, let's add another layer to that, the consumer's opinion. Seriously, it's time recognise wines on the basis of the pleasure they deliver to many, not the proclamations of the few!
