Having 10 events scheduled over 12 days has sure been a learning experience. Even with bottles purchased on release and stored under the correct conditions, many bottles don't show at their best. There are many reasons for this, but I have learned from this experience to be very dubious of vertical tastings stretching back decades where every bottle shows well.
It just doesn't tend to happen folks. Wine is a variable product and cellaring a wine is always a crap shoot. Sometimes you do get rewarded, like when you get pristine bottles of 1984 Ridge Monte Bello or 1980 Montelena!
