It's been awhile since my last trip to Oregon, but that doesn't make this clip with Naseem Momtazi of Maysara Vineyards any less compelling. You may not be familiar with the Maysara label, but the Momtazi vineyard (part of the Mysara estate), is well known as one of the best in the Willamette Valley.
While the Momtazi vineyard is well known, it is far from ordinary, starting with its location in the far east of the McMinville AVA. McMinville is better known for kooky hotels and the best nightlife in the valley than for world class vineyards, but Momtazi is the proof that this is one well rounded AVA.
The fact that the Momtazi family farms these lands biodynamically may have something to do with the end quality of the wines bearing the Momtazi name. Or perhaps it's the relationship the Momtazi's have with the world class winemakers who seek out their fruit. In any event, it is evident to anyone paying attention that something special is going on in this part of McMinville.
Find out what Naseem finds exciting about working with Oregon wines and the wines of the McMinville AVA. See what is so particularly special about those from her own Momtazi vineyard.
