Super Premium PVA winners

$25 to $50 a bottle and still representing great value

Today we're releasing our third installment of the Snooth PVA 2013 Wines of the Year as chosen by you, our users. This week we're taking a look at Super-Premium wines that fall roughly in the $25 to $50 price range and not surprisingly this is the best selection yet!

It might even be better than the Luxury wines we will unveil next week, simply because this is the broadest selection of wines at any price range and by the time you're running up close to the $50 mark you really do have a lot of world class wines to choose from.

In case you missed our previous installments you can find our Value Wine Winners, and Premium Wine Winners already listed on the site.

Château Pipeau

CHATEAU PIPEAU is to offer consistent style and personality. It is a wine with expressive fruit, an opulent nose of red berries, roundness on the palate, with good length and a harmonious and elegant finish. CHATEAU PIPEAU is very delightfull when young but it also has all the qualities  for laying-down of a really great SAINT-EMILION! ~ The Winery ~

Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District

Our Flagship Cabernet Sauvignon hails from our renowned Stags Leap District vineyard, best known for elegant and opulent wines. Deep garnet in color this wine is aged in French oak for 24 months. The wine is full bodied and accented with complex flavors of black fruit, chocolate, and dried herbs. The 2008 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits extraordinary complexity and balance, bolstered by fully integrated, silky tannins. Enjoy now or cellar for at least 10+ years. ~ The Winery ~

Rombauer Chardonnay

A soft yellow color that will darken with age. Bright, vibrant tropical fruit aromas flow from the glass. Underlying grapefruit and lime add depth and character to the aroma. Seamless, textured layers of cantaloupe, pineapple and vanilla flood the palate. A mouthwatering finish entices another sip. This wine will develop flavors of fig and apricot, giving richness, as it ages in the bottle. ~ The Winery ~

Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Style Port

The nose opens with classic aromas of candied Pinot noir, strawberry and black cherry with overlays of bakers’ chocolate and holiday spice. The entry leads with flavors of strawberry rhubarb cobbler and cashew butter. Sugars are nicely balanced by crisp acidity and a round viscous mouthfeel that is surprisingly light on the palate. Bright fruit flavors lead to a rich, tingling finish of brandy soaked cherries. ~ The Winery ~

Freemark Abbey Late Harvest Riesling Edelwein Gold

Rich golden yellow in color, the aroma is clover honey and orange marmalade predominantly, with dried apricot, orange zest, ripe peach, and honey suckle flowers. The flavor is soft, elegant, sweet but not cloying, with apricot and peach flavor and a hint of mandarin orange. This is a very unique, elegant desert wine. ~ The Winery ~

Matanzas Creek Merlot

The 2010 growing season was colder and wetter than average because of La Niña weather pattern bringing lower than average temperatures. Alexander Valley and Knights Valley accumulated enough heat to ripen the Merlot fully, showing great fruit expression of fresh and dry blueberries.

Aromatics of dry cherries and dry blueberries, bittersweet chocolate and cedar commingling with tobacco. Red-blue fruit on the palate with notes of sage, peppercorns and a hint of licorice. Vibrant acidity, with firm tannins and a long finish. ~ The Winery ~

Ghost Hill Cellars Pinot Noir Blanc

The 2011 vintage reflects with a slightly rose gold hue. It has intense aromatics. The mouth is bright and round with refreshing acidity and lush tropical and tree fruit characteristics. The wine is enjoyable alone and amazing when paired with seafood, creamier dishes and spicy fare.  A slow, cool fermentation was allowed to take place over 5 months. The wine was aged on the lees left behind by the yeast until filtering 3 days before bottling. ~ The Winery ~

Clos du Mont Chateauneuf du Pape

Vintage characterized by a magnificent Indian summer which created the most ideal conditions we can expect to go through a very serene harvest time. The yields reached 28hl / ha on average which can be considered as a normal one. Then, to achieve a high quality level, we particularly had to pay attention on that vintage to the maturity  of each parcel ‟to make sure to harvest ripe grapes.

BLEND 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre, 4% Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Muscardin, Terret noir, Picpoul noir. ~ The Winery ~

Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva

An intense ruby red with occasional brick-toned highlights, the wine’s aromas are fragrant and fresh with pleasurable notes of red berry fruit and exotic fruit and hints of liquorice, currants, vanilla, and passion fruit. The notes of Chianti Classico-style Sangiovese dominate the nose and fuse perfectly with a Cabernet which is equally important in characterizing this wine. On the palate the wine is highly pleasurable, supple, round, and soft in texture and savory as well. Tonic and vibrant sensations characterize a notably elegant finish and aftertaste. ~ The Winery ~
