South African Chenin Blanc

4 great picks to try now

South African Chenin Blanc Wine fads come and go, sort of. The media, always anxious to break a story as though we were journalists of another sort, are always on the lookout for the next great thing. Problem is, once anointed, it’s tough to go back and say, “Hey you guys, look over here, this ‘next great wine’ didn’t really stick so let’s try it again! ‘Next Great Wine!’”

Instead, what the responsible media should be doing is finding the most obscure wine on earth and recommending it to you all. Only kidding. In fact, the opposite is sort of true. Find the most widely planted varieties and help broaden interest in them. One of the great ways we all learn about wines is trying the same variety from different regions. Moving from one style to the nest teaches us about region, grape and grower!

Today let’s broaden our horizons with one of the world’s great white wine values: South African Chenin Blanc!

Just finished a bottle of the Stellenbosch and loved it with grilled fish.
I had a pleasure of going to a wine tasting in Greensboro at Zetos and Ken was an EXCELLENT speaker, with a philosophy that I also loved. Keep making a difference to SA and making great wines, too.

  • Simonsig is also quite good. A couple dollars more than the Ken Forrester, which I also enjoyed, but well worth it.
