One of the biggest names in winemaking, Robert Mondavi Winery has long associated itself with eco-friendly sustainable farming. Mondavi Winery, in Oakville, CA, is another who has made the switch to solar power. The winery, like many other sustainable farms, also uses gravity flow when making wine as a way to eliminate pumping.

    Dutcher Crossings in Dry Creek Valley and Preston Vineyard is Dry Creek are both totally Solar Powered. Preston Vineyards is doing biodynamic farming as well. Olive Oil, Bread, Fresh Vegetables, Fruit, etc. A wonderful place. Both Dutcher and Preston have been solar powered for years and both make some of the best Zin in the Valley.

    Another solar technology that makes perfect sense for wineries is Solar Thermal. These systems are designed to heat water for production facilities. They are extremely efficient, offer major financial incentives, and blend nicely with wineries. We recently installed such a system at Kunde Winery in Kenwood.

    2010 DECEMBER - Priam Vineyards Completes Phase Two of Solar Installation
    Priam Vineyards has completed a second installation of 30 solar panels, approx. 9Kw, in addition to the existing 50 panel system, 11.5 Kw, that will now bring their production up to 36000Kw, completely powering all parts of the winery, as well as feeding back to the grid.
