Sexy Summer Fruit Cocktails: White Currant

A perfectly primed blank canvas

As the days begin to grow shorter and our earth slowly moves towards its autumnal phase, a plethora of rustic, late summer berries burst into season. Blackberries, marionberries, huckleberries, raspberries, loganberries sparkle throughout our fruitful earth, a sea of dazzling gems ripe for the picking. The white currant, however, is the diamond in this rough. These tiny translucent jewels are actually the albino version of the more popular red and black currants, but with tangier, almost colorless flesh they make for exquisitely sophisticated liquid libations.

Not to discount the host of other late summer berries, they are all perfectly delicious. It’s simply that sometimes control over a cocktail’s color profile is everything and with the extreme purple and pink hues that come with most berry packages the white currant is a visually pure, taste bud titillating option. There are no rules, no restrictions, just a perfectly primed blank canvas. The white currant is a mixologist’s secret fairy dust. Sprinkle a few into your glass, let the breeze flow through your hair and enjoy the last magic moments of summer with The Butterfly Has Wings.
