Romantic Valentine's Day Cocktails

All is fair in love and booze

I’ve always had a secret affection for Valentine’s Day, and gosh darnit, I’m not afraid to say so. My guilty pleasure doesn’t stem from having a line of secret admirers showering me with hearts and flowers around mid-February every year—mostly because that line of admirers has never existed—rather because of what comes with this holiday. The chocolates, the plush teddy bears, the intense need to chug an entire bottle of red wine just to feel alive. This year though, I’m in it for the cocktails.

In years past, I have noticed that the Valentine’s-themed cocktails featured online and in bars are basically all the same. For the most part they are complete sugar-bombs, lacking in creativity, making them very un-lovable. While I agree that sweet cocktails are definitely acceptable and expected on Valentine’s Day, no Cupid, I do not want this drink that is 99 percent grenadine, and 100 percent un-drinkable. Give me something I can really love!

In an effort to really get to the heart of the matter of Valentine’s Day boozing, I’ve put together a collection of cocktails that send across a different message for February 14. Something with a little less of a mushy, lovey and unappetizing sentiment, and a little more, ‘How do I love booze, let me count the ways.’

So as you plan out your Valentine’s Day festivities—whether they be heartfelt and oozing with hugs and kisses, or oozing with drinks and 80 percent off chocolates from the local pharmacy— don’t hesitate to mix up a few of these quality concoctions. They’ll be sure to get you in the spirit, whatever spirit that may be. Cheers, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

I just found this: Cocoa Vino - Cherry Royale (the marriage of milk chocolate, red wine, cherry, and cream) - produced by L&F Vineyards.

It may not sound too good, but boy is it yummy. it's like drinking chocolate cherries..
