PVA Values - The Winners

The 20 best values of the year as determined by you, our readers!

Snooth's 2013 People's Voice Awards have come to a close and now it's time to roll out the winners. Over the coming weeks we'll be breaking things down for you, celebrating our winning finalists, and adding in a few editors picks to round out our list to include 100 great wines you should try in the coming year.

Today we begin with our value wines that are roughly under $15 a bottle, with most coming in within the $10 to $12 range. Not surprisingly these are mostly large brands with excellent availability. As we move up the price ladder we will of course see the mix of wines skew more towards the esoteric.

We congratulate all the winners and thank all of you who participated in the 2013 PVA!

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon

The Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is red-purple in color with a bright hue at release. Ripe fruit aromas of black plum, blueberry and cherry mix with a bouquet of toasted pastry, anise, and vanilla from a year of barrel aging. Mature and round on the palate, the cool 2011 vintage has a high toned fruit signature and soft finish.

Ravenswood Vintners Blend Merlot North Coast

Dry Creek Vineyard Chenin Blanc

This wonderfully crisp, incredibly refreshing dry Chenin Blanc perfectly represents our love for this classic grape variety. At first swirl, fragrant aromas of tropical stone fruits such as white peach, melon, and citrus leap from the glass. A few minutes in the glass reveal the wine’s signature mineral characters, and even some chalky notes, which are an ode to the variety’s Loire Valley roots. The palate expresses soft apple flavors along with zesty citrus and, overall, an excellent sense of balance and freshness. A perfect patio sipper, Chenin Blanc is summertime in a bottle! - Winemaker Comments

d'Arenberg the Stump Jump Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre

A very pure expression of this popular wine. All three varieties play an important role in the wine’s overall perception.

The Shiraz offers dark plum fruits, mulberries and licorice with plenty of concentration, depth and velvety tannin.

The Grenache adds a lovely lusciousness to the wine with raspberry, blueberry and floral notes adding prettiness. Both of the afore mentioned varieties also give a little white pepper character which has been accentuated in the cooler vintage and really acts as a point of interest.

Finally, the Mourvedre provides a perception of elegance and restraint through its lovely line of lovely red fruits with a hint of dried herb and importantly, a fine chalky tannin that carries all these characters to a long and wonderfully moreish finish. - The Winery

Jneises, I agree with you on the value of being able to print the list. I did some poking around and found that it can be printed. See the "Save List" link above. Click on that, and the list will be added to your profile. A box will also appear that says "List Saved" and will give you some options. Click on "Manage Lists." This will take you to the "My Lists" portion of your Snooth profile. You should see the "2013 PVA Top Value WInners" list there. However, not all the list will be displayed. Click on the link that says "See Full List." Not surprisingly, the complete list is displayed. Now, look above the list on the right hand side, and you will see a link that says "Print" with a printer icon. That should do it for you.
