5 Tasty Pumpkin Cocktails

Mix some up to welcome the autumn season

If you’ve been paying attention to your calendar or the storefront of your local grocery store, you know that pumpkins are the seasonal squash to buy right now. Last week on TheSpir.it, we shared a recipe for homemade pumpkin vodka. Now that the vodka is complete, some pumpkin-centric cocktails are in order!

While I tend to shy away from drinks that are overly sweet, there’s something about pumpkin cocktails that makes me want to throw my not-too-sweet tooth to the wind and drink up. So while the colder months often have me reaching for a warming whiskey drink, the flavors of pumpkin make my taste buds yearn for the sweet flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg, among others.

When building your pumpkin cocktails, be creative with mixers but refrain from making things too complicated. The best thing about making cocktails at home is the ability to mix and match flavors until your concoction is just right. Just because pumpkin vodka has a lot going on doesn’t mean it can’t be mixed easily. The flavors in your vodka, whether you use our homemade recipe or a store-bought brand, are screaming for some additional subtle sweetness. The flavors of clove, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg are very present in our homemade recipe, so using mixers that bring out these flavors is really important.

Below are some great pumpkin cocktail recipes that I prepared using my homemade pumpkin vodka. Try some of these cocktails and let us know what you think. Cheers, and happy pumpkin season!
