2012 Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte’s Home Northern Sonoma 13.5% $15

Sweet and intensely floral on the nose with distinctive gingery wood spice and toast notes on the nose over a base of apricot, lemongrass and green apple fruit. A bit soft on entry, there’s fine acidity here but it is wrapped up in a rather creamy and medium full bodied texture. There are very attractive pineapple and clementine flavors early on the palate which gain more of a stone fruit character on the mid palate where the oak spice adds a certain spark. This really has a lovely texture, round, full yet transparent and a bit angular. the wood spice is going to be a dealbreaker for some but for most palate it just adds complexity here and fades away gently on the very lightly vanilla laced grapefruit and creamy green apple finish. 89pts

2011 Trione Sauvignon Blanc River Road Ranch Russian River Valley 14% $23

Smoky if oddly delicate on the nose considering the aromas have good clarity and definition with a fine chipotle undertone and soft kiwi fruit and grassy aromas with hints of chalk and peach. Rich yet brightly acidic on entry, this is fairly structured in the mouth with early notes of guava and some old wood element adding detail to the core of quite ripe peach and pear that gains a hint of minerality and some peppery spice on the moderately long finish. This falls somewhere in the middle of the crisp and refreshing to rich and powerful spectrum. 89pts

2012 Hanna Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 13.2% $16

Pungent and rich with grapefruit, green tomato, lime, and lemon verbena aromas. This enter the mouth with bright acids that lend a citrussy tone to the palate early in but this gains weight and depth on the mid-palate adding in layers of subtle and clear herb, white peach and almost almond flavors that lead to a moderately long, fresh finish which shows a bit of creaminess to the pineapple, gooseberry and faintly herbal flavors here. This is lovely 88pts

2012 Long Meadow Ranch Sauvignon Blanc Rutherford Napa Valley 12.9% $18

Tight and small scaled on the nose this offers up subtle floral leesy aromas followed by aromas of river stones, white peach and lime pith. Delicate and focused, there’s a snappy quality to this on the palate that is attractive, yet the flavors are tending towards slightly riper fruit than I would typically associate with this texture. It’s not vegetal at all, offering up slightly creamy flavors of citrus, pineapple and green plum. The finish is clean and brisk, refreshing with a lingering river stone minerality and a note of kiwi on the finale. 88pts

2011 Field Stone Sauvignon Blanc Redwood Ranch Alexander Valley 13.5% $16

Quite aromatic on the nose with immediate aromas of pineapple, melon, and key lime pie framed with a subtle gooseberry note. Broad and a little softer than I’d like to see, this none the less fills the mouth with a nice blend of berry flavors that recall a blend of gooseberry and unripe strawberries layered over lightly creamy flavors of melon that gains a touch of wood spice on the rather long finish. A bit of an intense style but one with broad appeal. More of a food wine than a cocktail style of wine. 87pts

2011 Remridg Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 14.3% $17

A little oaky and smoky in a quartzy vein on the nose but at the same time this is quite fruity with sweet lemon curd and peach aromas. Texturally this is quite delicate and light in the mouth with an attractive blend of mineral, lime leaf and pineapple flavors that are small scaled and easy going, finishing with some peach and guava tones on the modest finish which shows some heat and a touch of wood spice on the finale. 87pts
