Big House Wines

Georgetta Dane's layered approach to wine making

Tasting with Georgetta DaneSnooth was happy to be able to host The Big House Wine Company's "Warden" and winemaker, Georgetta Dane last week. During our tasting we discussed her winemaking philosophy, which she likens to that of a perfumer. Georgetta manages the intricate task of creating a final blend that will become either the Big House White or Red. Each wine has a base: round and full, a middle of rich fruit and top notes of flowers and spice tones that pop from the glass.

What to expect:

While these wines offer great value and are lovely on their own and with food, I am hopeful that Georgetta might some day have a free hand with some of the varietals she currently works with. I look forward to one day trying her Charbono, Tempranillo or Teroldego! Find out more about Georgetta and Big House wines here.

A pair of suspects from the "Upper Tier"

Big House The Birdman Pinot Grigio
Priced from $ 8.49
This award winning Pinot Grigio has classic notes of almond and wildflower with herbal hints and a bright kiwi fruit palate that leads to a clean, minerally finish perfect for light fish dishes or an herb roast chicken.

The Slammer Syrah 2006
Priced from $ 9.99
Nicely perfumed on the nose with a complex array of tar, pepper, violets and wood spice all backing up the blackberry fruit and following through on the bright, lightly herb inflected palate. Serve this with a peppercorn crusted grilled steak!
