Napa Valley Cabernet of note, with and without a little help.

We wrapped up our Cabernet Sauvignon GTi with an abridged tasting featuring a few high-end bottlings from California. While the clear standouts were the more expensive wines, one less expensive blend stood out in particular - proving that if you search around you can still find a deal now and again.

2005 Montevina Terra d'Oro Forte
Full of sappy strawberry and red currant notes with zesty acidity and classically astringent Sangiovese tannins. This is a medium bodied winner with a long fruity finish.

2005 Miner Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard
Brimming with black cherry fruit and topped with wonderful herbal and fine chocolate notes this is elegant and polished with exceptional balance and finesse. Can only improve in the cellar.
