My “epiphany wine” was a glass of Stag’s Leap Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, vintage and price unknown but the 2007 retails at $55.00, enjoyed in 1998.
I experienced my first “epiphany wine” with my father when he handed me a glass of Stag’s Leap Artemis while standing in the kitchen on the day before I left for my first year of college in 1998. Having always shared a love of red wine with my father, he extended his arm and said, "Here you have to try this." Delighted with his offer and overjoyed with my good fortune, I immediately accepted his offer and without any hesitation took the glass from his hand and placed it eagerly up to my lips. As I tilted my hand back and poured the deep crimson colored elixir into my mouth, a nuance of flavors coated my tongue and flowed down my throat causing my taste buds to awaken and dance with joy. Right then and there I knew that this was unequivocally the best wine that I had ever tasted. When I looked up at my dad, all I could say was AMAZING! Despite my minimal wine knowledge at the time, at that moment I at least knew two things for certain, I was in ecstasy and I wanted more! It was definitely an experience I will never forget. And so with that one indefinable sip of Stag’s Leap Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, my wine journey began.
