We here at The Spirit know more about you than you think we do. We know you like to read about cocktails. We know you like to learn about spirits. We also know that most of you are in the business of both spirits and cocktails, and like to know about new things going on in your industry.

Creepy, ain’t it?

In an effort to keep all of our lovely readers informed on a monthly basis, we have introduced this very email that you are reading right now; a Spirited News Update. Every month we’ll load it up with new product news, happenings in the industry, and even a few seasonal cocktail recipes to keep things interesting. We may be fresh into the new year, but already there are plenty of things happening that you should know about, so without further ado, here you go!

In the News:


-Absolut Vodka has introduced their newest spirit to the market, Absolut Hibiskus. With a unique blend of hibiskus and pomegranate, this libation is sure to blow people away. You can get your hands on one of these bottles starting in January for a suggested retail price of $21 for a 750mL bottle.

-Bully Boy Distillery, Boston’s first craft distillery, has launched their first aged spirit, Bully Boy American Straight Whiskey. Will and Dave Willis, founders of Bully Boy Distillery, are adding this aged spirit to their current collection of un-aged spirits, including a vodka, a white whiskey, and a white rum. -Are you a lover of all things Sake? If so, save the date for “Sake in the City,” an event happening in New York City, brought to you by the Japan External Trade Organization and The Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association on February 12, 2013 at the Astor Center. The event will have handcrafted cocktails, sake tastings and food pairings, what else could you really ask for? Register for the event here.


Cocktails for January:


In the spirit of National Hot Chocolate Day on January 31, here is a delicious recipe for a boozy hot chocolate featuring Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka:

Van Gogh Hot Chocolate

2 oz. Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka
4 oz. hot chocolate
3 roasted marshmallows on small skewer

Prepare hot chocolate as you usually would, and pour in the vodka. Garnish roasted marshmellows on a skewer and whipped cream.

Who says you can’t drink Margaritas all year round? This recipe with VooDoo Tiki Tequila is off-the-charts good:

Handcrafted Voodoo Tiki Desert Rose Prickly Pear Margarita

2 oz  Voodoo Tiki Tequila Desert Rose Prickly Pear Infused Tequila
1 oz  Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz Agave Nectar

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine all the ingredients. Shake vigorously until the ice is broken up.  Pour into a rocks glass or strain into a martini glass.


Add some warmth and spice to the winter season with these delicious cocktails featuring The Black Grouse:

Flight of the Cacao

2 oz. The Black Grouse
1 oz. Lemon
1/2 oz. Housemade Grenadine
1/2 oz. Creme de Cacao
 
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coupe.

2 oz. The Black Grouse
1/2 oz. Toasted Hazelnut/Vanilla demerara syrup
1 dash Fee’s Aztec Chocolate bitters
 
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Stir until chilled and strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
