Tastings: virtual and coming to you live

So much happens here at Snooth each week that it's easy not to notice some of the newest developments. Just last week, for example, we conducted our second virtual tasting, in this case with Michael Twelftree (which can be seen here), winemaker extraordinaire of Australia's Two Hands Wines, as well as projects in both France and California.

We've been able to interview several influential winemakers over the past few months, and have included their brief comments in videos on, Cos d'Estournel, l'Aventure, Domain de Montille, Clos Jordanne, and Champagne William Duetz. We have plans to include video regularly in 2010, so please let us know whom you want to hear from.

In addition to our interviews, we expect to have video reviews of wines up and running soon. I spent several hours this weekend preparing the first batch while tasting with two friends. I'm proud to say that we have managed to put together brief videos that are both fun and informative while tasting some great wines. One was so good that I couldn't wait to tell you about it, so I am featuring it below!

What we're talking about

The Snooth Forum is a great place to exchange ideas and experiences relating to wines and the wine lifestyle.  We invite both novices and connoisseurs alike to join in the fun.

Right now were talking about The Future of Wine, Sonoma Chardonnay, Putting together a tasting, and Salt.

Wine and dine with Snooth

2007 Praxis Lagrein
During the recent filming of our new video reviews we happened to taste this wine and wow, what a find! This offers up beautifully framed aromas and flavors of crushed black and blue fruits with lovely hints of mocha and rosemary while delivering a wonderfully balanced, rich but not fat, mouthfeel that finishes with fine tannins and a lovely brush of acidity. About as good a wine as I've had recently from California and one worth hunting down!

Open that Bottle Night
Open that Bottle Night, begun over a decade ago by the Wall Street Journal as an excuse to open the bottle you've been saving for perfect occasion that never seems to come, is quickly approaching. While Snooth is not able to host an event on that Saturday night, February 27th, we will be hosting a small gathering on Sunday February 28th here in New York City to help celebrate the occassion. Join us as we try and top last year's festivities, which you can read about here.

I've also heard good things about the Praxis merlot, though I personally haven't had any yet. Anybody want to share any tasting notes on it?

I was extremely impressed with this wine so I've already made a note to visit Praxis next time I can get out west. I'll share everything I can discover.

P R A X I S 2006: A Higher Elevation of Something Completely Different! (Grazie/Danke/Thnx to Susan & Bill Arbios for quite a wine experience) Holy Lagrein! Whiffs of sanguine plasma and anchovy coming from first open & taste, nose of green quince skins, tastes e rose pedals, more tastes of soft black current without harshness, semi-sweet to bitter chocolate and Anjou pear back ground, solid black-squid ink color & texture, with a full mouth feel not heavy, flows out to exquisite 1 minute finish, balance structure….really remarkable, totally as unique as that of Siciliano Frapatto. All from a unique varietal courtesy peoples of ancient times, living e Aldo Adige, northern Italian Alps.
