2009 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Terroir
Big, beautifully complex nose, all generous red fruit limned with shadows of violets and wet earth. Bright and juicy with terrific acidity and a touch of sweet, oaky vanilla.
2007 Flechas de Los Andes Gran Malbec
Gorgeously spicy and shot through with deep, ruby red fruit, a bit of mint-inflected coffee that darkens into cocoa on the tail end.
2007 Riglos Gran Malbec
Stunning, inviting ripe, dark fruit, all bright cherry and thick, juicy plum. The nicely balanced acidity and soft tannins make this something you’d demand an entire bottle of -- dark notes of chocolate, earth, and a bit of licorice turn up at the end.
2008 Dona Silvina Malbec
Lujan de Cujo
This has such remarkable florals, it's nearly bridal in quality, just a raging springtime: white roses, tons of violets and lavender, shot through by a tunnel of rich, dark fruit. There's lovely structure here; the botanicals are chased by a bit of chocolate at the end. Super-fresh throughout.
2006 Monteviejo "Lindaflor" Malbec
It's massive -- there's vanilla and smoke off the top that gives way to fathoms of red fruit -- blackberries and smashed raspberries -- backlit by florals and black pepper.
2007 Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Malbec
There's a darkness here that can't be stopped, a bit of cocoa and burnt sugar and wet soil, like caramel melted and scraped into black earth. Lovely spices and rich, deep red fruit.
2009 Val de Flores
Downright lovingly fresh throughout, with sweet, soft tannins, dark caramel, vanilla, and lavender tones that cling for just about forever.
