Ready for duty on Valentine’s Day

Hofstatter

Subtly sweet on the nose with hints of pine nuts, bergamot tea, dried mushroom and lichen covered rocks  topped with some fine sage, smoke and maduro tobacco notes. Elegant and tense in the mouth, there are some fine tannins here keeping this firm on the palate which delivers lovely layered black tea, dried cranberry, and softly toasty oak spice. The back end shows more of a mineral bent with the tannins showing a touch of angularity before leading to the precise tart red fruited finish which is a little spicy, gently earthy, and attractive long, ending with a sweet/earthy burst of carob tinged rooibos tea like flavor.  Complex, refined and elegant, the earthiness here will not be to everyone’s liking but this is a lovely wine. 92pts
