Tasting Loire Valley Wines

Come explore great wines of France

“With only the barest knowledge – and without gobs of money either – you can obtain some of the finest, most pleasurable, most original and individual wines made anywhere in the world today by invoking the word ‘Loire’.”
- Matt Kramer, Wine Spectator

The Loire Valley Wine Bureau invites you to the only trade tastings devoted entirely to France’s most diverse wine region.

Loire Valley wines set international standards for Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, as well as producing unique local specialties like Muscadet. The Loire Valley is France’s second largest region for sparkling wine and its most popular region for wine sold in restaurants in France; and the wines are becoming a favorite in the U.S. market as well. Exports of Loire Valley wines to the U.S. grew by 40% in 2010!

The Loire Valley lies at the geographical and cultural heart of France. The Loire is the longest river in France,  the last wild river in Europe and the Loire Valley is France’s longest and most diverse wine region.
Loire Valley is home to 65 appellations in every style of wine – red, white, rosé, still, Sparkling, sweet, dry and everything in between. Loire Valley wines are made from more than a dozen different grape varieties and include definitive expressions of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne and Cabernet Franc. There is also excellent Pinot Noir, Gamay and Malbec, as well as little known but delicious Romorantin, Pineau d’Aunis and Grolleau. One reason for this diversity is the size of the Loire Valley. The vineyards grow along a 300 mile stretch of the river, so there are several distinct climates and a wide variety of soils that divide the Loire Valley into 5 distinct regions, each with its own characteristic varietals and wine styles.
