Seven Wines Tasted Blind
Tight on the nose with some BBQ spice and oystershell minerality layered under perfumes of fennel seed and flowers. Much more open in the mouth than the nose would suggest with a hint of sweetness helping to frame transparent raspberry and strawberry fruit. This is classic mid-weight Sangiovese. A bit simple today but with lovely fruit the superb structural blanche that is the hallmark of the 2010 vintage. Elegant and pretty 91pts
A touch leathery on the nose with a relatively dark fruit profile framed with earth and floral nuance. Dark, compact and edgy in the mouth with spiced black cherry and black raspberry fruit. This is big, rich and complete with a fleshy feel and fine structure that shows zesty acids not he finish along with a hint of heat. Really very nicely done. 91pts
What a lovely nose, quite herbal, spiky, and complex with a fine blend of dried herbs, hot stones, sweet spices, leather, cranberry and some worcestershire sauce all given added lift by a hint of VA. Sweet yet compact in the mouth with finely ripe but classically angular Sangiovese tannins.  With air this gains some weight, and loses a bit of clarity not he palate. It retains a fine blend of wild cherry fruit and earthy nuance that leads to a long, savory finish. 90pts
Rather sweet on the nose, and toasty with simple sweet fruit layered over some vanilla and topped with floral nuance. Surprisingly cool and compact on entry with great acids and polished tannins lending this a smooth fee. Today it's just a touch short and shows a hint of heat but there's plenty of chewy fruit here helping to buffer the palate. This needs a bit of time to further integrate and gains some tannic punch with time in the glass. 89pts
Fresh, pure and very fruity on the nose with layers of raspberry and strawberry fruit with hints of toasty oak spice and sundried tomatoes along with a touch of VA. A touch chewy on entry, this is slow to open in the mouth and compact with some wood tannin and sweet toast urging under the bright fruit. Cool, elegant and long on the palate, this delivers plenty of cherry fruit on the palate then turns a bit clumsy on the short, chunky finish. needs a bit more time to fully integrate. 88pts
A bit musty, chalky and lean on the nose some bright raspberry fruit and dusty framing notes. Clean and fresh in the mouth with great cut not he palate and mineral freshness to the vivid red berry fruit. This is long, juicy and clean, but is simple if in the classic high acid, energetic style. 87pts
A very unusual nose, both bitter and herbal as well as creamy and buttery. Coffee, licorice and brewed tea come to the fore with air. Smooth in the mouth with black spiced berry fruit that is tight but simple. Shows pretty good length but nothing standouts. Pleasant and ordinary. 85pts
