Tomorrow I will write about wines that, while fabulous, you have only a slim chance of tracking down, particularly in pristine condition. Today, to preventatively atone for that transgression I bring you wines that are not only fabulous, but are both well priced and in the market today. They also serve as an introduction to 2010 in Tuscany, another vintage of the decade in that making!
Seriously, 2010 is shaping up to be one of the great vintages of our lifetimes. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Piedmont, and Tuscany all knocked it out of the park. The weather was great, without being excessive, and producers are on the top of their game. The results speak for themselves. These are wines to track down and stock up on. It's a vintage that offers terrific quality from top to bottom, which makes it even more exciting in Tuscany where there are plenty of well priced wines that offer great value in typical vintages. In a standout vintage like 2010 they are unbeatable values!
I'm including notes in two parts below. The first are a small set of 7 notes on well priced wines from a blind tasting, and then I've also included a few notes from the recent Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri tasting here in NYC. Obviously the first set is more in depth and I got a fuller picture of each wine's character, but the wines from the Tre Bicchieri tasting were standouts and are worth including here if only to urge you to try and taste them in order to form your own impression of these great wines.
