2009 Neethlingshof Malbec Stellenbosch South Africa 14% $15
Truffle, oak, stewed beef, cooked tomato and black currant fruit. This is a touch hard and tense in the mouth, with great balance and excellent definition to the clear, bright black berry and black currant fruit. The tannins are very ripe and soft, but are abundant. The oak here lends a deep cocoa base to the fruit without obscuring any detail. The back end shows zesty wild blueberry and plum notes that lead to a slightly short finish, showing a bit more oak influence before a wave of light blueberry syrup rides over it to the bright finale. A lovely interpretation of Malbec. 90pts
