Chambers Street Wines
My favorite bottle of wine consumed in February 2014 was Huet Vouvray 1989 Clos du Bourg Sec. The wine had great mature Chenin Blanc aromatics of pear, tea, honey, and chalk; on the palate it was completely dry with bracing acidity, great depth of flavor and length, rich texture and excellent balance without a hint of heat. It went really well with the Asian-spiced dishes we were eating, and it was good to be reminded that the best dry Loire Chenin Blanc can age very well – we’re used to seeing the sweet wines, so this was a real treat.
