The wine estate, Ataraxia - the meaning translated from the Greek as 'a serene and tranquil state of mind free from worry or preoccupation'.
The wines, three only, each as magnificent as the last but with one emerging as the ultimate - Ataraxia Chardonnay 2008. (ZAR160)
Our surroundings surreal and sacred beneath the arched ceilings of the 'chapel' tasting room, stark white canvasses, with clear colours frivolously splashed with paint, yet dramatic and dreamlike, decorating the walls.
Seated in luxury, soft sumptuous chairs with ribbons of the afternoon sun emanating in through the windows, transporting the entire experience outward toward the Babylons Toren mountain range and again within, to the soul.
I sat with my close companion Mike Burton, encapsulated by the atmosphere and mood for a long time without words - sharing an experience of a lifetime, not to be repeated by revisits, the iniquity and uniqueness, an initiation ceremony entwined with the elements and each other.
We shared an epiphany wine experience, a oneness, a completeness, the fruits of the earth, imbibed.
