The Boozy Milkshake

A classic dessert, now for adults

The milkshake is probably one of my favorite ways to enjoy ice cream. I’m not much into the hot fudge sundaes, topped sky-high with chocolate, nuts and cherries--it’s never been my thing. A milkshake, for me, is a much more refreshing way to enjoy ice cream, allowing you to avoid the spoon and sticky fingers. And since everything tastes better spiked, I have done my fair share of experimenting with mixing booze into my milkshakes. Turns out, it’s pretty damn good.

I can understand why people would be turned off by the idea of mixing alcohol with dairy. I see it in two ways: a good and a bad. White Russian? Good. Irish Car Bomb, when the milky shot starts to curdle in the Guinness? Bad.

The trick to a good boozy milkshake is incorporating all the ingredients really well and bringing together the right flavor profiles. If you want to make a floral milkshake with a more neutral ice cream like vanilla, a liqueur like Koval Rose Hip or a vodka like Dragon Bleu Rose Blossom is perfect. Looking for something with more spice? A chocolate shake with a few shots of Fireball Whisky or Spicebox Canadian Spiced Whisky will provide notes of hot cinnamon that are just right.

Here are some of our favorite boozy milkshakes of the moment. Have any recipes you’d like to share? Leave them in our comments section!

Wow! We included an additional cup or a greater amount of frozen yogurt and a sound portion of ice since we like our shakes with crystals. Overall, this formula gave us s great beginning stage, so bless your heart!
