Orange wines
The master of Orange wines, and their greatest proponent is of course Josko Gravner. Since 1982 the wine that eventually became Breg has been blazing a path that resurrects ancient techniques to produce pure, unfettered wines. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Riesling Italico, fermented on the skin in amphorae, this is what Orange wines are all about. Spicy and structured with more than a trace of oxidation, it takes some time to get used to Breg, but with air it reveals all sort of subtle complexities along with rich flavors of nuts, dried peach, orange peel and melon. It is a unique sensual experience and the benchmark for Orange wines.
