Very perfumed with plenty of toasty oak on the nose laid over spicy black fruit that shows a touch of a baked character like blackberry pie filling. Smooth and rather well focused in the mouth. Attractive and fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit flavors glide across the palate backed up by subtle green herb tones and spicy, cedary oak. The tannins are a bit angular today, adding mouth grab to the medium plus bodied wine that end with refreshing austerity on the moderately long fresh fruited finish. This is clear on the palate and bright, and while it's a bit simple it's also varietally correct and shows a  judicious use of oak. 87pts
Interesting aromatics feature a bit of violet and iris along with some earthy root vegetables and peppery nuances under blueberry and black currant fruit sweetened with a nice dose of gingery wood spice. Smooth and polished in the mouth with a very fine vegetal edge that recalls beet roots with its blend of earthy and sweet elements adding some detail to a palate that shows plenty of blue fruit and floral character. Rather medium weight with some stiff underlying tannins lending this a firm feel that is in contrast to the rather bright, fresh fruit on the palate. Very refreshing and frankly a bit austere, finishing with some wood sweetness and a touch of citrus peel. This is  an attractive wine at this price point. 87pts
While rather sweet smelling on the nose, with lots of toasty, cinnamon streaked accents, there’s also plenty of blackberry and blue fruit here with cool inky nuance, a little peppery spice and fine integrated cedary oak notes., Fairly rich on entry, then turning nicely focused in the mouth with seamless integration and lovely purity to the core of black fruit on the palate. Fairly tannic, yet remaining supple in the mouth this shows good persistance to the fruit, though lacks some of the appealing complexity that the nose promises. 87pts
Sweet, candied and slightly leathery on the nose, this builds in the glass revealing nuanced balsamic, meaty, and dried herbal aromas over a base of dark and slightly peppery fruit. A touch sweet on entry, there are soft tannins supporting this rather broad wine in the mouth. Acids are well integrated and add a touch of brightness to the dark and slightly chewy fruit. Like the nose the palate shows off flashes of fresh and dried herbs framing a core of dark, spicy fruit that gains a hint of tobacco and a medicinal edge on the long, smooth finish. This lacks some detail but makes up for it with it softly polished mouthfeel. 86pts
Subtle and earthy on the nose with a hint of funk lated under clay earth, white pepper, dried herb and soft, red fruit aromas. Soft and broad on entry with a feel that is at once relaxed and yet firm, underpinned with nice, slightly angular and dry tannins. The fruit is a bit rusty, red in the currant and raspberry end of the spectrum and framed with hints of medicinal herbs, and dried cherries. The finish is a bit short, clean and brisk with a hint of alcoholic warmth and chewy tannins. This could use 2-3 years in the cellar to allow the tannins to further soften but today it is a subtly complex wine with an old-school flavor profile. 86pts
Rather big, rich and ripe on the nose, which is full of spicy plum and black cherry aromas with hints of damp tobacco, black pepper, clay earth and ink. Broad and smooth in the mouth, there are some fine, edgy tannins here supporting a mid-palate that shows some extracted vegetal, marmite like flavors under a core of rich, dark coffee tinged fruit. The tannins build in the mouth, lending a hard edge to the wine, though at present there is sufficient fruit to keep the tannins covered. Blueberries appear on the backend and then lead to a finish that is short, tough and tannic in a rather raw way. A tough wine that is too tannic for its own good on the finish. I expect the fruit to fade more quickly than the tannins here so drink over the near term. 83pts
Tight on the nose with a bit of a medicinal character showing through sweet wood notes and some candied floral, burnt sugar base notes. Bright, a bit chewy and fleshy in the mouth. This has some used wood notes on the palate and a bit of an extracted feel to it as it shows some vague dark fruit with hints of macerated herbs. Chunky, grippy and rustic, it finishes with dry tannins and earthy flavors that turn inky on the long, tough finish. Might improve with time in the cellar but today this is too big for its own good. 79pts
