Overview

There’s that old saying, “There’s a fine line between genius and insanity.” Now I’m not sure you’d consider any of these guys geniuses, but considering their forays into the wine business, I suggest they are each a little mad in their own ways.

These are comedians making wine, which ironically is a shorter list than celebrities making wine. This might be funny, if so much of their wine wasn’t so god-awful. Actually, that in itself is mildly amusing. So who can turn a phrase, handle a heckle, take a pratfall and still make something worth drinking? Let’s take a look.

  • James Judd and Son (also Cellar Full of Noise) in Paso Robles should be included in your funnymen of wine article. The father is a former ventriloquist and the son is a comedian with a very successful one-man show, "7 Sins".

While not the winemaker, Jeff Dunham collaborates with Dunham winery in Walla Walla for a series of wines based on his characters, and he should be included in this list.

  • "Wine is no joking matter" - certainly NOT the philosophy of the Sediment blog - perhaps the funniest writing about wine on the web. Or perhaps not. Try http://tinyurl.com/3xyv95w

20 Bees on the Niagara Peninsula is one of my faves and produces Dan's ice wines, Rieslings and other whites.
