The best places to visit when exploring Grenache grapes
Prieure de St-Jean de Bebian
Continuing on our travels to the northeast, ever closer to our final destination, we must also experience the wine of the adjacent Languedoc region. In contrast to the power of Gauby, a stop at one of my favorite producers, the Prieure de St-Jean de Bebian, might be in order.
One of the oldest wineries in the region, the wines of St-Jean de Bebian are always among the best, continuing to exhibit a lovely savory and earthy note while highlighting the explosive fruit that is so common in the region. Like the Gauby, this is a wine based on Grenache. In this case the wine is about 40 percent to 50 percent Grenache, the remainder being Syrah and Mourvedre. These are also great values.
