Getting away for a day, just an hour outside San Francisco

Livermore has a decidedly casual feel to it. The main drag, First Street, does have a certain wine country feel, but at the same time it’s a classic, small American town. Easy to park, and perfect for strolling, the street is lined with shops, the occasional tasting room, and lots of great dining options.

There are several Thai and Chinese restaurants here, with Uncle Yu’s at the Vineyard, just off First street, being the best known. All your favorite Chinese dishes are on the menu along with some innovative and unexpected riffs on the classic. A strong wine list will complete your meal.

Looking for something with more of an international flair? Consider the Zephyr Grill  where cuisines of the world meet. the wine list is Livermore centered, pretty complete, and well priced.

You picked the LAST wineries I would visit in my hometown. What should have been on the list is Occasio, Steven Kent, 3 Steves, Nottingham Cellars, Bent Creek, and La Rochelle for starters. I would pass on Wente, and Page Mill makes some of the worst wine I've tasted!

True to their heritage, Wente has produced a long string of late harvest wines. Their long gone hand written label wines from Monterey are still alive in their Late Harvest 2010 Riesling. It is a tremendous wine and the reason I still go back.

  • I'm so glad Page Mill made the cut! I have enjoyed their wines since they moved to Livermore.

Ouch Napagirl! I was trying to show the range of wines available from Livermore. Looks like at least one Snoother likes the page mill wines!

Hey everybody, wine is so subjective what I like you my not.
That said why not go 20 mile north and check out the wineries in contra costa county.
Or go thru the tunnel and check out the urban guys.
    Cheers to all
