2009 Mvemve Raats de Compostella

The 2009 Mvemve Raats de Compostella proves that South Africa can produce some of the best wines in the world.

The wine is a collaboration between friends and winemakers Mzokhona Mvemve and Bruwer Raats. Raats is one of South Africa's most famous vintners. The owner and winemaker of Raats Family Wines, he's been known for producing excellent Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc for many years. Mvemve was the first recipient of the Indaba Scholarship, which was established in 1992 to enable financially needy and academically deserving students to study oenology.

In 2004, the men teamed up to produce a world-class wine using all five Bordeaux grapes. They've succeeded ever since -- and the 2009 bottling is an absolute blockbuster, which beautifully bridges the gap between the Old World and the New World.
