Great bottles of the real deal

NV Pol Roger Pure 12.5%

Lots of yeast on the nose is followed by a real rush of dried lemon and orange peels, over a deep base of toasty brioche and crisp apple fruit. Soft and rich in the mouth, this is dry with steely apple flavors and a nice hint of chalk, with some light spice tones accenting the fruit. This has a super fine mousse, doing a great job of combining depth of flavor with elegance and delicacy. Dry and tense, this is a lovely choice for caviar. 91pts

  • Greg-
For those of us who do not live in NYC, how about rating the Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Mumms Mouton Rouge and a few other personal favorites? In reading your column, I did not find some of my common choices even mentioned. I like to learn, but if you don't give me a solid reference frame, I am disappointed. I'm fine with your Bollinger, Taittinger, Laurent Perrier ratings. Perhaps, I expect too much and these are enough for a good comparison. Happy New Year.
