Segura Viudas Reserva Heredad 12% $21

Rather refined on the nose with quince, honey and floral aromas over a chalky, earthy base. This shows excellent integration in the mouth with a fine mousse, fresh fruity flavors of melon and citrus accented with gently toasty suggestions of yeast and pollen. Complex, fresh and with good depth of flavor, this drits off with a long, bright finish that folds in mineral and apple skin flavors for an added layer of complexity. 91pts

2009 Naveran Brut 12.5% $14

Gentle on the nose with a fresh floral top note over almost meaty citrus notes that flash hints of sweet peach, apricot and caramel. Very nicely balanced if a touch sweet on entry, this delivers tons of sweet peachy fruit with some candied citrus framing notes and solid depth of flavor. Air brings out complex notes of yeast, hazelnuts and candied apples. This is fairly dry, finely balanced and finishes with refreshing mineral and almost spicy herb suggestions over rich yellow apple fruit. A really nice and refined package. 89pts

Totus Tuus Cava Brut 11.5% $16

Yeasty and floral on the nose in a fresh, precise style with layered honeycomb, marzipan, walnut and dried orchard fruit aromas. Integrated in the mouth and rather full bodied with a lovely nutty richness. There’s plenty of fruit here as well, with peach and apple flavors all wrapped in a finely balanced and rich yet not heavy package that finishes with persistent mineral clarity and a bit of chalky inner mouth perfume. Elegant and refined. 89pts

Freixenet Elyssia Gran Cuvee Brut 11.5% $18

Rather perfumed on the nose with hints of face powder and violets adding complexity to the apple, dried peach and light orange peel aromas. Very fine bubbles are gentle in the mouth, though this does show some rather obvious sweetness throwing it a touch out of balance. The fruit profile is unusual, offering up hints of blackberries along with the bright citrus and apple fruit. The blackberry notes become more obvious on the back end and through the moderately long finish. Clean, crisp and precise on the finale, this is a fairly large scaled cava. 89pts

Font i Jordana Brut Reserva 11.5% $20

Intensely citrussy on the nose with assertive chrysanthemum and chamomile aromas. Smooth and fairly rich in the mouth, this is supple, well-integrated and downright luxurious on the palate. There’s a bit of obvious sweetness here, with layered flavors of fresh fruit and some incipient notes of butcher’s wax, dried flowers and old cheese rind adding complexity. The nose is a little off-putting but in the mouth this offers a very interesting and attractive flavor profile that finishes with good length and dry, firm acidity ending on a pop of dried yellow fruit. Delicious stuff. 89pts

Chatel Brut Reserva 11.5% $12

A touch unusual on the nose with hints of persimmon being joined by yeasty notes with hints of sweet lemon drop fruit over ripe pear notes. Air really brings out the exuberantly fruity nature of this nose. A touch creamy in the mouth and really polished and smooth, this is really nicely done with plenty of bold fruit that mimics the nose, all layered over a base of gentle earthiness. The acidity keeps this bright and fresh and drives the chalky, earthy finish right through to a final pop of almost grapey fruit. A joyous wine that lacks some subtly, but makes up for it with exuberance. 88pts
