Top 6 domestic wines from Wine Enthusiast

California's Best Grapes Want to know what I really drink when it comes to domestic wines? The truth is a little bit of everything, but I really do love my Zins and Petite Sirahs. Not only are these great wines, but they are also almost always affordable and they form part of our vinous history to boot.

I’m of the opinion that most of our vineyards are actually too warm, too fertile, or too generous in some way to produce profound wine from the truly noble grape varieties. Instead, they are just right for other vines that include the aforementioned Zin and Petite Sirah, as well as Barbera, Grenache, Tempranillo. This is the value sweet spot in California for me and I always look forward to discovering new examples.

We are introducing our QPR rating for these wines. It is a simple ranking dividing point score by price, offering you another way to compare wines.
