2008 Century Oak Winery Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 14.8%
This really smells like an old campfire with aromas of burning marshmallow, charred wood, cedar shavings, black currant fruit, roasted green chilies and a touch of violet. Nice and focused on entry, this is well balanced with a bright, fresh feel and soft tannins supporting the crisp black currant and black cherry fruit. There’s some gentle wood spice adding complexity on the palate, with a bit of mocha and mint on the moderately long finish. Easy drinking yet nicely put together and well structured for pairing with a meal.
2009 Century Oak Winery Lodi Chardonnay 14.3%
Quite fruity on the nose with a lightly quartzy underlay to the fresh tropical fruit tones. This has an appealing almost mango note to it. On entry this is round and sweet, with a subtle streak of dried fruit spice wrapped up with the soft tropical fruits found on the nose. The acid kicks in on the mid-palate, adding a bright apple note that helps to add freshness to the modest finish. A fruit-driven Chardonnay that is soft and easy to drink.
