Bordeaux for Valentines

Share Bordeaux with your love.

Valentine’s day is coming up, and  your thoughts should already have turned to that special meal. From foie gras to oysters, and for almost everything in-between, Bordeaux makes a wine that brings magic, and cupid's arrow, to your special evening.

People tend to look at Bordeaux as the home of pricy, big red wines, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Bordeaux produces everything from light, bright whites to sweet, unctuous dessert wines, and even has some Roses and a sparkler or two to please any palate!

Don’t be fooled into thinking you have to spend and arm and a leg for these wines. Heck, for even half a leg (lets just call that about $20) you can find some great wines.  While Bordeaux can look complex, and even confusing, at times, our friends at have put together a site full of helpful hints and tips to guide you to the perfect wine for your meal: a fine Bordeaux, of course! So show your love and share a bottle with your someone special.

Two Fine White Wines from Bordeaux

2006 Clos Floridene Blanc
This combines lush fruit on the palate with a nice acid spine, allowing the rich canteloup flavors of Semillon to spread across the palate, while the inner mouth aromatics and finish reveal the rich, pink grapefruit tones and hints of herb contributed by Sauvignon Blanc. A bit of smoky oak adds a touch of complexity on the finish. A wonderful match for fish, prepared simply in a butter and herb sauce.

2003 Castelnau de Suduiraut
This offers up lovely aromas of smoky, spicy apricots and candied lime rind with a piercing floral topnote and waxy hints of nutmeg and mace. Fairly sweet on entry, this has very good balance as the acid kicks in on the mid-palate, supporting deep, rich flavors of treacle edged in luscious orange marmalade, fig, and caramel tones. For dessert or Foie Gras, this is a superb match!
