Australian Shiraz $16-$20 It’s not unusual for me to find a sweet spot in wines right around $20 a bottle. For many producers, this spot represents the finest expression of their vineyards, intended for near term consumption. While they might produce more ambitious wines at higher prices, those can be matte in their youth, with details obscured by extraction and toasty oak.

While many of those wines do improve with cellaring, most people buy a bottle of wine and take it home with the intention of it drinking it that night, or perhaps over a weekend. For that reason alone, we should all focus more on the approachability of $20 wines.

Here are some recommended Australian Shiraz priced from $16 to $20.

I've always loved aussi Shiraz and now it's even better - balance!
Try the 2009 majella musician (ok it's a cab Shiraz blend). It lives up to it's critical hype with ample fruit, mint complexity and - balance!
