The winemaker behind Dutton Ranch

An Interview with Dan Goldfield Dutton Goldfield is a well-known and well-respected partnership between long time Winemaker Dan Goldfield and long time grape farmers, the Dutton family. If you take the time to drive out and visit the Dutton Ranch, out past Grafton in Sonoma County’s just about the middle of nowhere region, you really get a sense of the commitment it takes to persevere at farming in such a remote, and until recently, relatively little known region. You’ll also get to see that the Dutton Ranch remains the family operation it has always been. On a good day, you might even get to meet all the generations of Dutton’s who make Dutton Ranch so special.

One of the people responsible for introducing Dutton Ranch to much of the world happens not to be a Dutton, but rather is their partner and winemaker Dan Goldfield. After a successful career as the winemaker for La Crema and Hartford Court, Dan followed his heart and partnered with his favorite grape growing family. I caught up with Dan recently at the this year’s Sonoma Wine Country weekend and asked him a few questions.
