1990 Barolo

The verdict on this vaunted vintage

1990 Barolo It’s been a very good year. Over the past 12 months or so, I’ve been fortunate to taste through quite a few 1990 Barolo on several occasions. Those who know me have heard me say more than once that I don’t consider 1990 to be one of the truly great vintages for the region, and I’ve even gone so far as to say that I don’t see the wines benefitting much from additional time in the cellar, with a few exceptions.

Last month, I joined some friends for a stellar line-up of wines, 12 in all, some underperforming, but a top-of-the-line glimpse into the character of this vaunted vintage. So, what’s the verdict? Well, in all honesty that is always a personal judgment call, but I’ve heard more than once that I am wrong about 1990 Barolo. So, was I?

I've got a 1990 Guasti Clemente Barolo. Any thoughts on this one?

    Hi Manny,

I haven't had the 90 but have had several older vintages and the wines were all very impressive. I'd bet that bad boy is ready to go and should be delicious!

    Thanks Greg.
Guess I've waited long enough on this one.

Really nice Greg and thanks for the link in the e-mail. Now we have to starting thinking about how we're going to top this one.
