Barbera has even made it to South Africa of all places! Charles Back has made the South Africa’s first varietal Barbera: a blend of grapes grown in both Paarl and Swartland from vines planted in 2001. The 2008 vintage was Fairview's inaugural release but expect more to come, as the wine has been very well received and the variety seems well suited to South Africa’s short but warm growing season.
